The best thing about our business: helping clients get their essential content seen around the world

Let me tell you about one of our most rewarding clients.

We’ve done a lot of projects for non-profits, hospitals, unions and NGOs; dubbed TV series and podcasts on Black and Jewish history – I love all that work.

And then there is Circle of Security International, a company that teaches attachment parenting around the world. COSI trains psychologists to teach parents how to raise happier, more secure children.

They do this primarily through a video course on parenting, the centrepiece of an eight-week program for parents. They offer this course all around the world – from Mexico to Mongolia. And Power of Babel is helping COSI expand its reach.

Since we started working with COSI in 2020, we’ve versioned their course into Arabic, French, Italian, Swedish, Japanese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Romanian, Czech… and on it goes. Currently we’re finishing Dutch and have started on Finnish.

The work includes nearly all the services we offer:

  • audiovisual translation
  • voiceover production
  • dubbing or subtitling (depending on the language)
  • re-editing videos, including replacing animated text
  • captioning for the deaf and hard of hearing (AKA SDH).
  • text translation
  • DTP (desktop publishing – re-creating the printed materials in a new language).

Logistically, it’s something between a jigsaw puzzle and a Rube Goldberg machine. Everything is dependent on everything else, and things need to happen in a particular order. Creatively, every new language is a new set of puzzles, with its own quirks and challenges. (Who knew that there are so many important differences between Netherlands Dutch and Belgian Dutch? Certainly not me.)

I’ve learned so much form this work, and met some incredible linguists along the way.

So, we do well by doing good… AND we get to sharpen our skills, expand our network and learn to work in new languages. It doesn’t get much better than this.
